Whitford and Hughes.

The Europe of 1918 - 1945 was a place of extremes - of luxurious excess and cruel deprivation, shattered by one war and rapidly heading towards the next. Artists reacted in radically different ways to the Great War and its consequences.

The Schools of artists featured in this exhibition each reflect the feel of their age in a different way, but however firmly they have set their faces towards the future they share a common desire to retain some portion of the pictorial laws of the past, providing themselves with a sense of harmony and order - a mixture of Modernism and Tradition.
