During 1946-1947 the celebrated fabric designer Zika Ascher collaborated with numerous artists on his so-called Artist Squares Collection. These silks were intended to be displayed in frames as well as to be worn by fashionable ladies. Prominent artists of the time all contributed, including Calder, Cocteau, Derain, Dominguez, Laurencin, Moore, Nicholson and Picasso.
