Zao Wou-Ki is one of China's foremost artists. He left his native China for Paris in 1948 where his early exhibitions were met with praise of artists and public alike. His work has developed from early influences of Impressionism and Cezanne to his trademark style of modern use of the traditional Indian ink medium. Shortly after his move to Paris, Zao Wou-Ki met Zika Ascher with whom he collaborated on the celebrated Artist's Square series during the 1950s and again during the years 2000s when he achieved a total freedom of expression without losing his mastery of technique. Fabric designer Zika Ascher's fascination with artist's images printed on silk started in 1946 and lasted his lifetime. Contributing artists include Calder, Derain, De Staƫl, Moore, Nicholson, Picasso and Wou-Ki.
