Albert Louden

Whitford Fine Art, 2001. £6.00

Unconventional East End artist Albert Louden leaves the door ajar for us to peep inside his magical secret world and view his latest creations. Louden, like many before him: Yves Klein, F N Souza, Bridget Riley, was first discovered by talent scout supremo, the late Victor Musgrave of legendary Gallery One. This exhibition will be the most important show since the Streets and Rooms exhibition at the Serpentine Gallery in 1985.

Louden's work is still as challenging and enigmatic today as it was 16 years ago. His art has a teasing intricacy and complexity, even if achieved by very simple, almost naive means. The American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore has a room currently devoted to 30 works of Louden. Visionary Art was recognised in the works of Jean Dubuffet as an alternative art form later termed ART BRUT.
