Born in Egypt, Bouchard has lived and travelled in Lebanon, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. His childhood memories of the Gulf have never left him and form the basis of his warm spiritual renderings of the Desert. Almost biblical in atmosphere, these landscapes challenge the viewer to question the human condition itself. Bouchard projects onto the viewer his longing for open space where man finds it easier to communicate with God. In his rejection of the dated and the banal, Philip Bouchard paintings have a timeless quality.
love the Middle East. It was there that I started to paint more classically. I had found landscapes I was looking for and discovered the beauty and the importance of desert dawns and sunsets, and the wonderful light. - Philip Bouchard
