Louis Marcoussis (Polish/French 1878-1941)
Marcoussis studied painting in Kraków before moving to Paris in 1903. He worked as a cartoonist before meeting Braque, Picasso, Apollinaire and others of the Cubist school. Whilst exhibiting with the Section d'Or his paintings were never stifled by the Cubist manner, instead his work expresses a poetic musicality in composition as he introduced elements from nature.
