Adrian Henri (British 1932-2000)

Adrian Henri's work bears testimony to the Merseybeat zeitgeist of the 1960's and 1970s. He embraced painting, poetry, performance art, writing and art criticism, always retaining an open-ended response to culture in its broadest guises. He is one of the three poets in the best-selling anthology The Mersey Sound, along with Brian Patten and Roger McGough.
After studying at Kings College, Newcastle-upon-Tyne 1951-55 under Richard Hamilton, Henri took teaching posts at the Manchester and the Liverpool Colleges of Art 1961-1968. 'The Entry of Christ into Liverpool' - his iconic homage to James Ensor, was completed in early 1964.
