John Milnes-Smith (British 1912-1998)
John Milnes-Smith was a painter and collagist, notably of abstract work. He studied at the Architectural Association specialising in historic buildings. Having graduated in 1939 he served in World War II until 1944. Upon his return he set out along the path of representational art but quickly moved towards abstraction. The 1950's saw his work being influenced by Gear and Manessier and later by Abstract Expressionism.
